Jewelry Holder

Jewelry Holder

A simple and fast project to bring color to a wall near you. :)

I'll be honest, I'm not 100% proud of the end product, but I can live with it...for now. I've been doing some deep cleaning in my room with the little time I have (from work) because people are coming over to rip my carpet out and replace it with some wood flooring. (I'm so excited!) I ended up having this empty space on my wall and some jewelry that needed a home so I quickly put together this temporary DIY project. As soon as I get my new floors, I'll be sure to show you the new DIY jewelry holder I make, but for now here is what I got.

Pick up a canvas of your choice. If you don't want to spend money on a canvas, you can use cardboard, or use something around the house that is pretty much flat and strong enough to hold some jewelry. I usually buy my canvas at Wal-Mart or Ross.

I've decided to use paint to cover up my blank canvas. I used these three colors. I just bought some storage things in black and this light turquoise color so I was trying to match it up a bit. I used the largest flat brush I had.

I grabbed the lighter color and started to paint away. I originally was going to use just this color but because I was kinda experimenting with this project I decided to add the other two colors to see what I can come up with.

After I was happy with the main background I went outside with my mod podge as a final touch.

But.... when I got inside I didn't like how plain it was, so I decided to do some detailing.

Once I got the border done I did some finger painting to use up the extra paint I had on the side. I did that because I don't like wasting paint.

Once that's done then you can go back and spray more mod podge on top if you like. While that dries you can plug in your hot glue gun, and if you don't have that then super glue works too. Also, I used magnets as the thing to hold the jewelry. I was actually at Wal-Mart getting some stuff and while I was there I was looking for something that could work. I ended up seeing these magnets and thought PERFECT!

Next, you need to come up with a placement. I decided on three on the top, two on the bottom. Once you find what you like then grab your hot glue gun and glue it to the canvas. I honestly didn't want to measure exact distances so I winged it.

I was going to use those command stickers to put in the back to hang up, but I realized that I was going to make my final product after my new floors come in so I didn't want to waste the sticker. Those things can get expensive. So since I was doing some deep cleaning I found an old broken necklace that I was dumping so I decided to use that. You can use anything to make this.
When you're ready grab your hot glue gun and put two dots, put the two end on top and put more hot glue right on top. Let it dry and it should be good to go.

Now that we are pretty much done with this project find a spot to put it and decorate.

So this is the basic idea of this DIY, and I'm going to make another version later, but in the meantime it's simple, and holds my stuff so I'm happy. Next time I think I'm going to ditch the borders and put a small phrase or a word on the very top.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a good rest of your day/night!
