1000 Origami Cranes~
Each week I'll be sharing some DIY projects I think is a fun way to bring some creativity into your day!THIS WEEK.....
***1000 ORIGAMI CRANES FOR GOOD LUCK***
The Japanese word, "origami" is a combination of two words in Japanese: "ori" which means "to fold" and kami" which means "paper". It is believed that Japanese origami began in the 6th century and because of the high cost paper, origami was only used for religious purposes.
It was believed that if one folded 1000 origami cranes, one's wish would come true. As a result, it has become popular to fold 1000 cranes. The cranes are strung together on strings, usually 25 strings of 40 cranes each - and given as gifts.

I actually never heard about this until my mom brought it up. She was set on making 1000 if these cranes so she went out and got the paper for it. She needed some help, so my mom/s project became our project. We actually started a while back when my grandmother was sick in Korea. We didn't really have the funds to just head down and visit her any time we wanted because plane tickets for everyone would have been expensive. My mom started this to help keep her busy while my grandma was sick. This 1000 crane was to wish her to be in good health.
Not going to lie...it was hard work but I think the end results were fantastic! It looked pretty cool in a glass case. We kind of ran out of paper so we had to use some colorful ones. I still think it turned out great though.
It definitely took some time to make, but I'm proud of our work. It says that you would usually string the cranes but we didn't have anywhere to put it if we did string it so we decided to put it in a glass container tall enough to fit 1000.
Trying to find a place to put it was tough because it was taller than an average book, and because my mom needs everything to look perfect when decorating it was hard to find a home for it. It ended up going into my room and on a shelf where I keep my taller books. It fit perfectly as a book end and I'm loving how it turned out. I also put a box with some inspiring words that I thought fit with what it took to make the cranes and why we made it. I also left the piggy bank right on top because it reminds me of Korea, where my grandmother was when she was sick.
It's a pretty simple project, but it definetely takes some time. All you have to do it make the crane so here a link to a youtube video. There are many different ways to make a crane, and to be honest I make mines a differnt way than the video. In fact, my mom and I make the cranes using a different way, but it still turns out the same.
